If you want to eliminate hunger, everybody has to be involved. “When people were hungry, Jesus didn’t say, “Now is that political, or social?” He said, “I feed you.” Because the good news to a hungry person is bread.” Desmond Tutu. When you share your last crust of bread with a beggar, you mustn’t behave as if you were throwing a bone to a dog. You must give humbly, and thank him for allowing you to have a part in his hunger. Hunger makes a thief of any man. A hungry man is not a free man.“Find out how much God has given you and from it take what you need; the remainder is needed by others.” Saint Augustine.
I have the audacity to believe that people everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for the minds and dignity, equality and freedom for their spirits.“Pay attention to the hungry, both in this country and around the world. Pay attention to the poor. Pay attention to our responsibilities for world peace. We are our brother’s keeper…” George McGovern. Most of our citizenry believes that hunger only affects people who are lazy or people who are just looking for a handout, people who don’t want to work, but, sadly, that is not true. Over one-third of our hungry people are innocent children who are members of households that simply cannot provide enough food or proper nutrition. And to think of the elderly suffering from malnutrition is just too hard for most of us.
I have been contemplating of how best we can eradicate relief food which is locally and commonly known as ‘Mwolyo’ in this area for more than 7 years now! Fortunately God gave me a chance to serve the same community I was brought up in, where we used to take one meal a day! I mean only dinner! While I was as young as when I was in primary school going age. I thought how best I can end this pitful and pathetic lifestyle by doing a detailed food security proposal to Compassion International Inc Kenya in last year; 2019 and seek a total of 4.5 Million Kenya Shillings. Believe me not that this life transforming proposal got funded in March this year;2020. It’s supposed to benefit 370 families from which our supported beneficiaries comes from, 5 kilometers radius from A.I.C Kanzinwa Church. We have commenced it’s successful implementation whose three core objectives are:- Meeting food requirements, getting income and mobilizing savings from sale of horticulture produce, each caregiver is to do his or her own portion. We have been doing horticultural farming at our church/FCP for demonstration purpose to all community members. Kudos to Compassion International Inc Kenya!
